Time: 22:20 - 23:00 Local
Location: Home, Launceston Tasmania
Radio: 7.5” Loopstick Tecsun PL-380
Total stations logged: 140
New stations logged: 8
Furthest station logged: 783 kHz - 6VA - Albany- 2642Km

Notes: Last night was my latest session in quite a few months; the hot weather meant that I didn't go to bed until a lot later than normal. This was a huge benefit to me as I managed to log 140 stations and 8 new stations including a new distance record for myself of 2642Km which was 6VA from West Australian, the later time meant that they were also in darkness which would have been the reason for this logging. It was a quite enjoyable session except for the hot weather which was to the point of making me feel sick and very uncomfortable. The results from last night has given me a real boast and I am keen to try some different times of the night to see what I can hear.

Below are the new stations I logged.

783 6VA - Albany WA
855 4QB - Pialba QLD
1071 RADIO NZ I-NZ
1107 Radio Live I-NZ
1215 NewstalkZB I-NZ
1242 5AU - Port Augusta SA
1458 RADIO NZ I-NZ
1557 HPON - Renmark/Loxton SA

Good catch on that Albany station, that's quite a distance from your QTH.

It's always fun to hear something from the other side of the country. Here (in the NW US) I'm happy if I can hear something from the other side of the mountains!

No sweat buddy:) you probably already know this but just in case, when you're tuning around and want to identify a station, you just scroll all the way down in that site, and type the frequency into that last box-I have it set up already in there for a 1000 mile radius of your location, but you can change all that stuff too if ya want.

Thanks man, I didn't even know there was a place to get the information to you that fast I was using Wikipedia and searching Google for power and distance. This made my day

hey BOOM we're in the same BOX:D
the furthest ones I've gotten were in Texas, Az., Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico, and one up in Saskatchewan.
I was reading stuff and came across the idea of a feedline RF choke so I took up the extra slack on my feedline and made a 10-turn over 7" coil up there at feedpoint. It killed some common mode junk I was suffering-even on MW. Wish I had known of it sooner. MW is extremely clean now! So I have to give some MWDX a try with this choke and see what I can see:)

Ultralight DXing Report - Launceston Tasmania - 22/02/2014

Date: 22/02/2014
Time: 22:10 - 23:15 Local
Location: Home, Launceston - Tasmania
Radio: 7.5” Loopstick Tecsun PL-380
Total stations logged: 111
New stations logged: 1
Furthest station logged: 1386kHz- Radio Tarana (2430km)

Notes: Last night was the first time in about a week that I have had the radio out. Checking my test frequencies of 711kHz, 909kHz and 1386kHz first all showed signals of a decent level with 1386 kHz being a little bit down in signal level compared to normal. I then started at the bottom of the band where I found a real surprise of a new station for the log, 4QL on 540kHz which is also used by a 7SD running 5KW about 45km from my location. This was the first time I have ever logged a second station on this frequency, I did notice the audio of 7SD was dropping in and out about every 5 seconds and this allowed me to hear enough audio to add 4QL to the logs.

Moving up the band didn’t produce any new stations to add to the logs and a number of stations I normally hear towards the top of the band were missing in the noise. By the time I got back up to 1386kHz the signal levels had really dropped off and it was barely audible. At this point I called it a night, happy with a new station added to the logs.

Radio: 7.5” Loopstick Tecsun PL-380
Total stations logged: 119
New stations logged: 2. 585kHz - 2WEB / 675kHz - Radio NZ
Furthest station logged: 1296kHz - 6RN. 2768km

Notes: Last night’s session was very interesting with two new stations logged. Band conditions were an improvement on the normal for here and this meant that most stations received were producing very clear audio. 2WEB on 585kHz is only a possible as I had trouble nulling out other stations on this frequency but a name I heard matches up with information from the website. Radio New Zealand on 675kHz was a new logging and this raised out of the band noise and 2CO towards the end of my session around 22:30 local. Other New Zealand stations on 909, 1386, 1548 & 1602kHz were all received at good signal levels with 1602kHz being a real standout and only having slight mixing with another local station on 1611kHz.

Very poor copy but I got it here also. Peaked for me at the bottom of the hour. New log here.

I also added 1420 KRLL "Your Country Home" to the log last night.
