Welcome Pocho great Start!!

"Big 'ol western howdy.".!! Sounds like you had a great start "right outa the box"!
You're in great DX country. No big stations close by to make it hard to hear the weaker ones..I was in Yuma area awhile and it made for great listinin'.
Used to hear WSM 650 Nashville and KWKH 1130 Shreveport LA well from there, and check out KFBK 1530 Sacramento..they used to "boom" in there around sunrise. I worked " morning drive" KBLU Yuma
back in the day...when KBLU TV and the one El Centro TV station were all ya had!!
Never needed an extensive antenna...but if ya get that G8 on a "wire"...Look out!!
Let us know!..huh?!

Re: 920khz WOKY - when I was a kid, their old transmitter was just up the road, and I swear, you could hear them when we opened the refrigerator. Really!! Now they are 5 miles away, and they merely pin the S meter.

Yeah, I'm in an RF zone here too. I've got one on 1420 about a mile away. Then one on 1570 about 2.5 miles away. 1470 and 1330 are about 6 miles away with the main lobe of their antenna patterns coming my way.

RE : Living close to big AM'ers..do the new digital AM Xmttrs really wipe out a bigger spread on either
side, or is it just me?

That digital hash is a killer. If you're careful, you can null that hash with a loop, or use a phaser. So, like sit on 710khz, but turn your loop to null the hash from 720 rather than what you're listening to on 710. Not great, but better than nothing. Starting to get the bug again, maybe tomorrow I'll fix my 3 ft box loop and play with that some.

Hash noise from Digit. Xmitters is ia pain!!

Yep..hadda learn to null it..works real well using C Crane "twin coil" goodie..but I mean ya gotta move the
ferrite core just ever so slightly or ya miss it. Big one local here 1140..so KWKH 1130 Shreveport
takes a lotta "easy does it" adjustment..but it pays off eventually.
Ridge...I'm gettin' a load of 'em from way north, too...and not much noise, either. Listenin to 'em on the
old Zenith for a change "barefoot". A little fidelity for a change, huh!?

It doesn't make any sense but using the exalted carrier on the sideband nearer to the digital station lets the audio come through on the frequency you're trying to listen to. I found that out by mistake one day when I hit the wrong sideband button while trying to null out the hash next to a digital station.

a29 little "accidents" can prove to be the key in this hobby for sure!! Will try the SB thing!!
Example: last night I was sittin on 900 khz , when I got up and hooked the chair {somehow)
on the lead cable from the "ferrite bar" box to the "tuning box". Knocked the "bar" more NW..and
WOW..dangdest music I ever heard. Eclectic kinda bluegrass stuff. Turned out to be KZPA Ft Yukon AK!! 5KW non Dir.Almost completely in the clear.
Also KDYL 1060khz S. Salt Lake UT@ 149 Watts!! Called Station to Verify Programming and power.
Wanted to see if 'ol Ridge could hear 'em..but the boss was using computer for work stuff..so.sorry Ridge. Will try again tonight!!....

Wow I doubt seriously I could ever get that Utah DX here. You really have an excellant MW situation up there between that new twin ferrite and your location:) very nice DXs Charlie:)

Used to be a great Alaska station lower part of the band . Can't find it now, but always rolled in here
late afternoons/early evening..Logo was "Voice of Eskimo" or something. Great stuff. Anybody know??
This northwest stuff is gettin' interesting.

650khz CKOM Saskatoon, SK Canada 28.Nov.10 0500z VG with WSM phased - RZZ

Got my 3ft loop built back up. A little sloppy but is working pretty well. I'm phasing it against my new SUPER wire and that combo works well. Using a real simple home brew RLC phaser which gives lots of controls to maximize the null. On both the wire and loop, resonance can be adjusted to start the phase null. THen rotating the loop and/or adjusting the resistance on the wire ensures that the offending signal is exactly the same strength which maximizes the null of the 'pest' leaving the weaker DX all alone on frequency that the 'pest' normally covers up.

Very simple yet quite effective!

I was phasing two wires, but I think they were too simiilar. Loop vs wire works real well.
