• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I was told that I need an AM Regulator for my RCI 2980 CB radio cause I have very low modulation on AM side as to where the modulation on USB/LSB work perfectly. This information came from a shop.
My question is, does anybody know where I can get this from?
I called a shop in Erie, PA and the gentleman there said he has them for $6.15 but that sounds to me like a price for a transistor not a regulator.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Did he tell you what an "AM Regulator" is. I've never heard of one and I don't know what it would be used for. If you have low modulation then it needs to be increased not regulated. Your signal on USB/LSB is your AM modulation minus the carrier and the unwanted sideband.

The guy never said what the regulator is, just that I needed it and not just for the mentioned radio but also for a Cobra 142. As I said, this information came from a cb Shop that has been around for some time and I thought they knew what they were talking about but now I'm having doubts.
Do you know what I might need to correct the problem?
Thanks again.

The info came from Crickets CB Shop in Valley Grove, WV

Does the shop not have this "regulator" ? Seems if he said you needed one, he would offer to get and install it for you? I would think this would be what a CB shop did.

I wouldn't go back to this guy, he's trying to scam you. The modulation level is set by some internal circuitry in the CB and it does this by controlling the audio gain of the mic circuitry. So anything you add external to the CB might increase the average modulation but not the amount. That price you were quoted sounds like it would be for an empty box.

I believe there is a mod to increase AM audio. Are you using a power mike with the radio?
