Just recently got my Tech license and I'm into DMR but hoping to find a "breakfast club" and or " ride home" talk group on either the WNC or NCprn dmr networks. Or is there a better system I can reach out of Gaston county? Hope this makes sense

Trey,
Congratulations on your Tech license. I am not aware of any wide area nets on the NCPRN network.

Hi Trey-

Fellow Gaston resident here! Congratulations on the new license. If you’re ready for an upgrade by Jan 8, PM me for details on a test session on that date in Rock Hill, SC.

I’ve found that ‘shaking the bushes’ during typical drive times on the WNC group will find some activity. PRN seems to have shot itself in the foot. There is also a Gaston BM machine—plenty of chatter on TG 91 but also 3137 NC TG will often have activity if you make some noise first. Depending where in Gaston you are (or travel to/from) there is also a repeater on Hood Rd/CLT that is tied to the TGIF network that may be a good one for you.

I work rotating shifts so unfortunately I miss out on typical drive times. Welcome aboard.

Cool man thanks for the info! I'm still figuring the whole BM system out. Sometimes I can get it to work and Sometimes it's like I have the wrong info. Also I'm trying to program a couple of the local schools where my mom and wife work but even with the info on here I can't hear anything! Are they encrypted?

Twinche1986, DMR does have a learning curve but if you're at least getting it to work part of the time, you're not far from an 'ah-ha' moment or two. Any specific issues/questions, I don't mind to try and help on here.

As for GCS comms, several of the local schools have gone to DMR on UHF but it appears to be a simple base/handheld simplex setup so unless you're within a few miles of a location you're not likely to hear them. No repeater means just line of sight (less loss due to structures, trees, interference, etc)--and of course with the caveat of your scanner being DMR capable and/or if using a HT to monitor that CC, TG, & TS are all correct. See below link...looks like you're a new user so be sure to click on each license entry under the schools heading for details of number of units/power/location for each user.

Yea I've only had my license for a few weeks, so I'm new to it all. But I appreciate the offer for help! I'll definitely be asking questions. My call sign is KO4VON and I'm always listening and talking on the Dallas repeater. Dmr ID is 3187232.
