I'm trying to understand unlocking the other digital modes in the scanner for ham radio specific modes.

Is DSTAR included in the PROVOICE unlock?

If I purchase a ProVoice/DMR key does that open more things in the downloaded database that I'm not seeing now, or would I then need to program DSTAR/DMR manually?

If I were manually programming a favorits list for example:

Would it unlock a new modulation to select?

Would it unlock more options under Audio Option?

I don't think there's a scanner yet that does Dstar or C4FM Fusion yet. Those are just modes marketed to amateur radio.

DMR however is originally a commercial mode adopted by many amateur radio operators. Similar with NXDN and P25 being commercial or public safety later adopted by some amateur radio operators.

If you get an RTL SDR dongle and DSD+, you can monitor and log D-star.

Also there are 3 separate upgrades you can purchase: DMR, NXDN and Provoice.

If there are no provoice systems in your area currently, don't get provoice because no new provoice system will be ever be deployed again.

Both the AOR DV1 and the less-liked portable DV10 can handle D-Star and Yaesu System Fusion just fine, along with DMR, some NXDN and several other digital modes as standard. The newest in the lineup, the 5700D, takes digital even on step higher, and is exponentially more expensive.

And while these radios do have adequate scan (and search) functions, they are considered less sophisticated than the Uniden scanners in terms of flexibility of scanner programming; they are more akin to professional communications receivers with some scan and search abilities.

Certainly much more expensive than a dongle, but worth a look if you are a serious digital enthusiast.
