Anyone ever listen to any of the AEP trunked system. We have the Gavin Power plant in our county. I haven't had much luck monitoring so far. Mostly I hear a bunch of data transmissions. I'm getting ready to see if RR has any TG info for the plant....Steve/KB8FAR

Hey all,

I haven't had much luck getting anything from the Gavin Power Plant on the AEP 800MHz system. They may still be using some conventional VHF / UHF frequencies. I read somewhere some AEP power plants still use conventional freqs for day to day operations.

I also pick up alot of data bursts on the AEP system fom my location here in Jackson County. I mainly scan the Medflight talkgroups and don't monitor much else on there.

Which tower site do you monitor in Gallia County ? I mainly scan the in Wellston and some times a couple over in Ross county at Chillicothe and Richmondale.

Have a great day

AEP power plants are still using their conventional, low-power systems (usually a UHF repeater with an antenna somewhere on the property, high enough to do the job). They do have access to the SEC talkgroups but these are rarely used.

The data you're hearing is PLC (power line control) monitoring system data.

I just added Medflight's TG's to my Pro2096. I guess that's what I'll do is just listen to them. I don't particularly want to hear the data bursts !!!! Steve/KB8FAR

Medflight is of course not affiliated with AEP, but they contract with AEP for radio communications.

Hope This Helps!

Thanks. I have always wondered why they were listed under AEP's trunked system.
I guess I should load them to my scanner too, and just those tg's for medflight.
