Anyone here used an amp for this model? I like to buy one for mine and would like to know if it will be worth the money. I need it for 2.4 GHz. video due to it being very deaf at this frequency.

I have an R3 and it isn't deaf at 2.4 GHz.

Do you mean to use with the stock antenna?

Go buy a high gain 2.4 GHz antenna. They are pretty easy to find. Use an appropriate cable and connectors.

Yes.

It needs to stay portable. I was looking at the amp made by GRE. Before I ordered my IC-R3 4 years ago. Before I bought it I called Icom and a tech. actually mentioned it was indeed deaf at 2.4 GHz. I try to pick my cameras up with no results. I hold the radio right up to it and I can see the pitcher. Yes it is in the frequency range.
