PTC...Positive Train Control (PTC)

Interesting read, but how would PTC work when Amtrak rolls on rail beds not owned by them? On the CSX and the BNSF rails the speed and movement of Amtrak trains are subservient to the freight. (We travel by rail by choice.)

Interesting and I haven't heard any talk about this for our lines, but what else is new.

PTC was concieved with the idea that crews will not be able to overrun their authority on the main line, speed restrictions and the such. The engines keep getting updated via the wayside stations...and if the fail to act its suppose to put the engine into penalty just like the cabsigal system does if not acknowledged in the proper time.

Bascially, every mainline is suppose to be equiped. Somewhere I have a link to tbe time frame by railroad when they expect it to be rolled out (its on the FRA site as well somewhere)

MTACOP, I have been working on this project for the last 3 months. We ran tests on the N Haven and Hudson lines up until last week. I have my doubts about them making the deadline, but I am not in charge. BTW take a look at all the licenses MTA just applied for for 700 mhz. I have doubts on that make a wish system also.
