Amtrak PD at SF City kING ST. Station...

Helo all!
The other day I saw an Amtrak PD officer at the Caltrain Station
Does Any know their Frequencies???
I would think that they use the Common "RAilRoad" plan...
(BCD396T ahs a Service search and one of them is Railroad)
But all is silent on that....
I've searched on and off for the last couple of years..
I found VERY LITTLE...
ANY FREQuncies, ideas, would be Greatly appreciated.

I can't speak for that specific station, but I have heard 'Amtrak' units on the Santa Clara County Sheriffs' frequencies.

IN that case then I wonder if they use whatever city or town Dispatch...
For example
In SF
SF TRS,
In Daly City
Daly City Conventional etc...

Amtrak PD is contracted to work CalTrain and you may hear them speaking to CalTrain personnel on the road channel (160.815, no PL). Additionally, you're right, they do have access to most local agencies and communicate directly with them. They don't have San Francisco yet, but they may be getting San Francisco TRS portables in the near future.

We do the same thing; I spend far more time on the local agency channels than I do on the railroad channels. We have Kenwood TK790/890 radios installed for VHF and UHF and I also carry a portable for Merced County SO TRS and another for Richmond/Pinole/Hercules TRS. In my division, we have radio usage agreements for 44 different agencies from Bakersfield to Klamath Falls. Amtrak uses Motorola radios but they're set up much the same way.

I know very little about railroad police, other than I do remember a particularly scary presentation by Southern Pacific Police when I was in elementary school about thirty years ago that explained how dangerous it was to play on the tracks (my school was very near the yard in San Luis Obispo).

If you need to run wants/warrants/plates, do you do it through your railroad dispatch on a road channel (which I believe have remote bases on mountaintops w/microwave & fiber links back to wherever the control center is), or use cellular/Nextel, or do you actually come up on the local law channels?

As often as I see railroad police vehicles (not very often), I'd imagine there arn't that many of you, and you rely on local PD for backup.

Sounds like an interesting job for sure! Lots of travel, though.

It depends on what local jurisdiction we're in at the time. We have some allied agency CLETS agreements that allow us to use their radio to run plates/persons just like a unit in that agency. Merced County is a great example; if we have a traffic stop, we just call it out like a MCSO unit over the radio and get all the registration/person info. MCSO dispatch has our call-signs and Officer info on file. We can also call them in to our call center or, in California, to DOJ via cell phone.

No, there aren't many of us at all and we rely heavily on allied agencies for backup. That's why we have so many radio usage agreements.

I do love my job. You're right about the travel, though; so far this year I've spent 27 nights in hotels!

Just be glad you don't have to deal with an entrely innercity types.
Here in SF they do have the Muni PD.
Only problem is, they dont have full arrest powers.
Furthermore, they are primarily used for enforcing fares.
Which is fine, except that SFPD is overburdened and shortstaffed as is, And Muni has a LOT of problems .
Unruly passengers, drivers/operators and passegers being assaulted .
Thefts, vandalism, etc.
I asy give the Muni PD full arrest powers complete with sqaud vehicles, firearms.
Undercover units , K9's etc.
You know a Police force/
Then most likey Muni will see its fares increase as more people feel safe enough to ride.
I ride Caltrains and feel 1000% safe, Muni well I ride because I can't drive and I have to get around LOL
Anyways LOL

and remember Not evey Civilian in California hates ya LOL
