Just a word here. This is an open invitation to any and all to come out for the annual ARRL Field Day event. In case you're not familiar it, each year, Amateur Radio operators around North America participate in a simulated emergency communications drill. The scenario is that hams must leave the comfort of their home shacks and go out "into the field" to set up and work, usually off the power grids using emergency power, to try to make as many contacts around North America as possible.
This year Field Day is this Saturday and Sunday, June 23rd and 24th starting at about 1 pm Central time. There are several dozen sites here in Kansas and many thousands around the country. To find a site close to you go here: Field Day Station Locator.
In particular, I would like to invite anyone in the southcentral Kansas area to the Newton/McPherson Amateur Radio Clubs joint Field Day event at the Hesston College Stutzman Retreat Southwest of Hesston near NW 48th St and Halstead Rd in Harvey County. (we are listed on the Field Day Station Locator maps...)
You need not be a Ham to come out an see us and, at many sites, if you would like to see what it is actually like, you can even sit at a radio and we will help you make some contacts.
