Question: I'm hearing Toronto EMS units called as maybe CP2,CP6 and something along the lines of VAT or Vac.

Never heard this before. The radio ID for VAT or VAT 7 is 28517. The radio ID for CP2 is 28509 and CP6 is 29173.

Anyone here know what these EMS units are?

Offer: I've been off for the Christmas break now since Friday and will be off till the 4th. As I always do I continually collect and alter RIDS, now all active RIDS I hear and discover are being capitalized; there are so many RIDS I don't see active on various systems on my scanners or when I run Unitrunker or check Trunk 88.

So the new and active radios will be capitalized on my lists and the old ones will be for almost all written out not in all caps.

Might be easier for us to monitor when the new radio system comes in that is if they are using the current radios.

I'll continue to work these when I have time. Anyone who wants this work can get in touch with me, been on here now for 20 years so you know me or you can message me here and I'll send them out.

My Xmas holiday present to the community.

I'm here a lot
I believe CP's are Paramedics who make home visits for vaccines for those who are housebound. Unsure of VAT.

Community Paramedic and possibly VAT/VAC has something to do with COVID vaccinations. Just a guess though.

Sounds about right.

My cousins live in Thornhill, one of them is severely disabled. York Region came to them for the vaccine. I imagine it's the same for the '6.'

I wish they didn't mumble and say their words clearly for me, lol.

Common problem especially on portables. The mic is on their shoulder so they are not speaking into it.

I have a local user who is real bad for doing this on almost every shift. They recently got 3 days off because of this chronic issue. The straw that broke the back was a traffic stop where you could hear the traffic (cars) in the background but not the user (very low audio). This necessitated a second and third unit to respond to verify their safety. The user on hearing the additional units responding finally spoke into the mic and clarified everything was good. Followed by "I really hate using the radio and I do not need a babysitter 10-4 dispatch.". Time for retraining when they get back from their time off.

I personally think that with all the systems now being digital, there needs to be retraining on how to use the radios on the systems especially talking into it. Bear in mind that some of the bad audio issues are not the user but is actually the hardware. For the tech guys out there reading this: please, please, please update the firmware and re-do the audio levels on the radios. Especially, APX using the RSMs. 90% of your 10-1 signals will go away.

You both are correct. They use Alerts 1 and 2 for vaccine appointments for seniors and shut ins. They are free shots for COVID-19 and they are Community Paramedics for those who need help at home. They are a special unit of Toronto EMS. They came and gave me my first two doses and they will probably do my booster shot. Hope this helps.

Thank you for this information. It's appreciated.

The SDS100 doesn't do a great job recording. When you listen to playback, it's hard to rely on it being accurate. I find that my tags for Toronto Paramedic Services have many errors, on my part.

Sounds like more of a radio tech problem than user. The amount of DSP for noise reduction on APX radios is amazing if tuned correctly. With Toronto Fire even if there's alarms going off, sirens and engine noise, the firefighter's voice is clear, probably better than they hear themselves in-person. Have a listen to the pump operator standing next to the truck or the lobby guys at the fire panel with the building alarm still sounding.
