My children have been with their grandparents (the in-laws) for 10 days over their spring break. Today they came home, with all of the stuff they took there and a box of "junk" they had been playing with while there. Inside that "junk" box was a hand held scanner. It has the option of using AA batteries, so I put some in and IT WORKS !! I was able to program in local stuff, but am now in need of an owners manual for my new free toy
