Analog Type II System "burping"

Our Motorola analog Type II 800Mhz Trunked System has been experiencing some hiccoughs and burps today. Anybody want to enlighten me??? (BTW, I did a search first but found nothing in this forum).

While scanning or listening to a busy talkgroup, the radio would burp constantly like it was covering someone's audio. The length of the burp would last as long as the transmission. It was not found on any one talkgroup, but it did interrupt public safety operations. It was definitely NOT a stuck mic or some knucklehead interfering, encryption, or other systems interfering, etc.

Moto techs were called in and within an hour had it fixed (for now). Any guess what might have been wrong??? :?:

The only other option I can think of is a bad repeater. Maybe a voter problem? I'd have to hear it to really know.

It started again today, but only occurred at the tail end of a random conversation or two, and then went away.

I was going to monitor the freqs in a non-trunking mode to see if it was one repeater or not, but it all went away by itself (probably to return).

Sounds like BBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.
Not like anything else I had heard.....thought it was my handheld dying.
Sorry no more details....maybe next time I'll record it and post it for y'all to hear.

try reseating all of the ics in the controller. in two of the type I systems we look after we found the controller going stupid once we reseated the ics it worked good. also, are you using mtr2000's? you might have to realign them.

Sounds like a transmit combiner problem. To keep it simple. you have one transmit antenna. You have ten transmitters, including the control channel all feeding into a combiner and then out of the combiner into one antenna. If that combiner is not tuned precisely, then you can hear the control channel data on some on the voice frequencies. It may be random as the four control channels rotate everyday, and it is probably only one control channel causing the problem.

I'm not privy to the maintenance side of the story, but I have some contacts. If/when I find out what was wrong, I'll post it.

BTW no more burps. Maybe the system needed some GasX. :lol:
