Hello to everyone. I am moving up to Anchorage in May, but have a couple questions. Of course I would expect the city of Anchorage to be using digital signals either now or in the near future, which is fine. But will my 396 be able to pick up Elmendorf AFB? I noticed that info was removed from the database, which is fine, but is it going to be worth trying?

Thanks
Joshua

Yeah, you'll probably be picking up their traffic as much or more than anything else when monitoring the sites in Anchorage. Nothing special required. That's of course if they're not using encryption. Otherwise, all you'll hear is the "parrot on crack" obnoxious sound of P25 encryption. The info removed from the website all it was is the "unofficial and assumed" description of a portion of the talkgroups they're using.

BTW, the greater and denser areas of the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) will be part of the ALMR system using Simulcast sites in the 700MHz and that portion will be also known as AWARN (Anchorage Wide Area Radio Network). And some areas, especially around the airport will be in 800MHz. The rest of the state is currently on VHF. So the current scanners will be able to monitor as usual in P25 clear mode either way.
