I just invested in a Samsung Galaxy Tab A Android tablet & have been playing around with installing apps. I noticed a number of 'Police Scanner' apps but didn't want to waste time playing with any of them before asking here if anyone has any comments or recommendations? I'm also interested in an app for monitoring the NE Corridor/Morrisville Line CR/NJT/Amtrak comms.

Thanks!

FOLLOWUP: I found the free Broadcastify app in the Google Play store & I'm impressed with the performance so far.

More on Broadcastify with an Android tablet

As with streaming a video or movie, I see the screen stay lit as well as the app (Netflix) run without interruption. During my first trial with listening to Bucks PD/fire/EMS, the display goes black after a few minutes, which was OK. But after maybe 10 minutes I stopped hearing PD transmissions. The app display showed that it had stopped. Under Settings, I made a change that makes the tablet continuously accept data. It works fine so far (25 minutes since start).

On another topic, my Minitor VI is programmed to monitor all the North Band fire tone pairs on 155.550. A call came in on the pager but nothing was heard on the tablet.

I plugged into Broadcastify tonight on my Dell desktop while monitoring ALL Bucks emergency dispatch comms on my Minitor VI (155.550). Unless I'm missing something, the feed contains only PD comms & not FD or EMS as they claim.

Regarding listening to the feed on my tablet, it timed out after about an hour. I'm not quite sure what the problem is & how to fix it but an audio stream is constantly sending data even when no one is transmitting, so why it should disconnect on its own is a mystery. Anyone have any thoughts?

I have no need for a scanner other than my BC-895XLT. My interests these days are primarily the computer-related digital side of radio communications, such as streaming audio feeds. Let the stream providers buy the scanners.
