I have a Uniden 396XT, live in West Knoxville about 15 miles from TYS. I constantly see KC-130s training overhead and also see a fair share of Kiowas flying to and from Oak Ridge. I've never monitored milcoms because I was always under the assumption they were encrypted. So now that I know about them, does anyone have a list of working frequencies I can put in my radio?
On most weekends, I'm almost always passing by TYS with my son on our way into the mountains. Our favorite thing to do is drive by Tac Air looking for fighter jets. We are HUGE fighter jet fanatics. I assume the fighter jets and helos that use Tac Air aren't part of the ANG base but I have still wondered if they use frequencies we can pick up along with the ANG ones.
There was a local thread started a few months ago in "Military Monitoring" and people were posting frequencies ranges to monitor refueling planes and military helos. I've been scanning those frequencies but living and working in West Knoxville means I'm kinda outside the TYS/ANG zone and I really haven't had any hits while scanning.
So does anybody have a decent list of frequencies I could use to get things started?
Thanks,
Greg
