I wanted to start a new topic as the posts I’ve seen are 3 years old.

My question has to do with the best frequencies to listen to ANF on. Back in the day, they used to dispatch on 171.325, if I recall correctly, and simulcast on 415.225. The 415 frequencies were taken out of use about 20 years ago. I have the current (according to RRDB) frequencies programmed in but don’t hear as much activity as I used to.

Can anyone tell me which frequencies I should be listening to and which ones I’ll never hear anything on?

All of the fire suppression activity is on Forest Net (172.3750). All of the other activity (volunteers, recreation, law enforcement, etc) are on 164.9375.

If there is an active wildland fire, then they generally use NIFC T-2 (168.200).

Thanks, both of you. I asked only because they don’t seem to be as talkative as I remember them being in the past. Have they reduced the transit power of their radios? I just don’t seem to hear them as well as I used to.

ANF and LPF started their narrowband upgrades last year which involved moving some sites and installing new equipment (repeaters, antennas, etc.). For some people, the further away you are from the forest, the less likely you are to hear it. Im in Newhall and can only hear two repeaters now, only one of them is 'full quieting'.
