Anne Arundel County PD New Radios?

I heard a conversation on the eastern District Auxiliary Channel this weekend about "toggleing down". The one officer asked the other officer to "toggle down" and the other officer replied, "I'm trying to but I'm still getting used to these new radios. The conversation then went on to say that they can only toggle down on certain channels. Does anyone know what Toggle Down means? Is this possibly some sort of encryption? I tell ya, there's always something new to figure out. :roll:

The new radios is probably from when they switched to the new system. They are from what I here XTS 3Ks. I have no idea what toggleing down means. I sure Markgrutz does since he uses the same kind of radios.

From what my acquaintances tell me, "Toggling Down" is going to the Auxiliary channel for that district. It used to be easy to do with the older, simpler radios; apparently it works much differently on the new radios than it used to.

Yes, they refer to "toggling," "toggle over" or simply "change over" and any number of other terms to go to the auxiliary channel and it only means switching from Zone 11 to Zone 12 for the AA police radios which is very easily accomplished since they stay on the same channel designator (A,B,C or D) for the four districts. I guess some people that don't normally work within the four districts might not be used to finding the Zone switch on their radios or realize how simple it really is. At the beginning of the switch to the new freqs and channel setup, many of the officers used the term "switching to TAC" for the change but that was quickly dropped. I set up my talkgroups so each district's auxiliary channel is right next to the dispatch channel which makes for a one click change when they toggle. I also changed my TGs for Baltimore City too since it was nine clicks to go from the division dispatch to the respective Zone C "auxiliary/TAC channel.

on the radios... there is a switch at the top of the radio with 3 selectors (A, B, and C)... i dont understand how the officer couldnt "toggle down"... all you do is flip the thing from A to B... one thing ponders my mind... if you switch to C... its the old talkgroups... anybody with an idea of why they still have the old talkgroups in their radios?

Well, since I was mentioned......

Howard County thought we were all to stupid to use our ABC switch, so they took it out of the codeplug for the radios....... Now we have to do all the switching the long complicated way...
