The second alarm fire was early this AM, shortly after midnight if I remember correctly. The first units arriving reported a 2 story house 100% on fire. Plows were needed to open a route permit tankers to refill and return to the fire.

Those are MDNG humvees. They are taking the number of the station they are based at for the duration of the emergency.

I've been hearing some fire units that have "4" attached to their number. I've heard Engine 84, Medic Engine 94 and a few others, while still are identified without the "4" like Engine 35, Engine 121, 122, etc.
Does anyone one know the significance( if any) of the 4 being added?

A long time ago, the "4" at the end was used to designate that the unit was a "reserve engine" (i.e. when the front line engine - Exx1, Exx2, Exx3 - is in the shop). As least part of the reason for doing it was to alert command that you may not be getting the normal engine (i.e. an engine with a larger than 500 gallon water tank or some other special capability)

That was abandoned a while back - I don't recall exactly why but I think it had something to do with the radios and the CAD/dispatching -- although the reserve gets coded in CAD from RE-10 to E-xx4, Exx4 would still be using portable radios (which didn't get reprogrammed each time).

The "4" being used now is a trial to indicate Pumper-Tanker units (engines with typically 2,500 gallons or more of water) -- so this is sort of reverse from the earlier days.....

Off the top of my head, the units are:

E64 (Herald Harbor)
E84 (Annapolis Neck)
E94 (Harwood Lothian)
E101 (Jacobsville)
E134 (Riviera Beach)
E194 (Cape St. Claire)
E204 (Lake Shore)
E294 (Jessup)
E404 (West Annapolis)
E424 (Deale)

Who are Eastern 70, Eastern 71, Western 70, etc? I dont think they are detectives because they normally would say Detective 114,Detective 124, etc.

I just heard the wierdest thing, on the CID which is used as an AAPD admin channel for the county. A lady comes on, "_______ to RCC, we can take over all the district channels here." RCC to ____, 10-4"

AAPD keep talking about the hotlines.

They keep talking about fliping a switch. Then they said no, we havent flipped the switch, we have to call Annapolis PD.

I got a bad feeling that they are talking about encryption.

The fire department keeps doing testing on there side also.

Not encryption, both the AAFD and AAPD were at the back up 9-1-1 center in Glen Burnie yesturday. It is known as the RCC (Regional Communications Center) it is the back up communications center for AAFD, AAPD, APD. The switch is were the 9-1-1 phone calls are sent to be answered (Glen Burnie or Millersville). As of 0700 hours this morning AAPD and AAFD are back in there respective centers in Millersville.

That makes total sense now! Thanks for information!

During a Signal 13 call for AAPD at BWMC Hospital, I heard 300 (Eastern Commander) talking to Control Services 1. Control Services 1 wanted an update from 300. Who is Control Services 1?

They work in logistics. AAFD has grabbed NIMS terminology and run with it. They used to be called "fleet maintenance".

There was some sort of rumpus on Dobbin Island Saturday night ( hot weather + too many boat drinks). In addition to DNR 3xx units trying to clear things out, I heard Anne Arundel County PD units identified as Marine 10, 11 and 12 on TG 17456. I never heard these before.
Another first for me was hearing AAPD 3xx units talking directly to MSP unit P31 on Eastern Dispatch TG 17360 as part of a search for someone who bolted from the AAMC ER.
