• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

As the title says I’m curious on how you’d go about activating or programming announce and roger tones on an HT1250/CDM1550.

Thanks for your help!

What are announce, and roger tones? I've been around, and programming these radios for a while, and I've never seen announce, and roger tones.

Maybe I called them by a wrong name but basically the noise that lets you and other users know when a radio keyed up and ended transmission

These tones became popular with CB back in the "trucker" days. Then when the $10 bubble pack GMRS radios came out, they did the same thing. Professional [business] radios have no need for "ROGER" tones. However, some trunking, or DMR radios do generate a tone to tell the user it has acquired the repeater, & the transmission went through successfully.

I know with the XTS5000s you can put a single-tone beep on the radio when you key up and another when a received transmission ends, but both of these only apply when the transmission being sent or received is non-secure. I have the transmit tone on mine as a makeshift PTT beep to let me know when I've keyed up in a noisy environment such as on the roadside or the fireground. (I passed on the receive beep, got annoying fast.)

Transmitting MODAT on an amateur repeater is the quickest way to make enemies, or get thrown off that repeater. It's just not COOL.

I didn't say where or when it should be used if at all, I'm just trying to identify what the OP is most likely referring to.

MODAT is cool, however I save it for simplex.

I guess at the end of the day I’m looking for this minus the repeater at this point. Is that even possible?
