Then nobody will be able to listen. then what???????
Here in denver the police chief is angry about all these feeds. He can encrypt any time he wants and so can the other departments.

Aloha all...
I had no idea that this incentive program even existed until I received an EMail from RR saying my Big Island feed had topped out at 3003 listeners.
I read the various forum comments - and was interested in the ones from people in small towns saying it was unlikely they would ever be able to win.
My feed is a great example of how this is simply not true. Keaau, and even this island itself, is pretty small (even though we are the biggest hawaiian island), and it is certainly remote (2000 miles from land in all directions). Can't get much more remote than that.
Normally my scanner has 6 or 7 listeners, with the occasional peek to 20 or so.
I was listening to the feed myself, and happened to notice that it was up to 300 or so listeners. I was intrigued - at that point I modified my feed profile to include the 2-hour current event (which I'm sure helped boost it somewhat).
I was astonished to watch the statistics grow as the tsunami grew closer. The highest count I personally saw was 2996 listeners, before it started to drop (RR stats show 3003).
So even though we are a very small island with a very small population, the fact that a potential disaster was headed our way made for an audience of listeners.
Since we refer to this island as "Danger Island", you can expect more in the future - we have active volcanoes, daily earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, tsunami - every natural disaster in one spot.
But the same goes for any small town - ANY event can suddenly happen that puts YOU on the map.
Aloha nui loa! And thanks for listening!
