• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

New here so sorry if this has been discussed and I think I have found a similar issue of this before. I have 3 Motorola radios and they all do the exact same thing. Each time I am just monitoring our local FD/PD, I hear the a light pop immediately before Rx. If I am listening to scans with low volume, you hear it even more so. I have read this might be a the amplifier clicking on but it's EXTREMELY annoying. I can't believe that it does this on my XPR 7550e, and both of my APX 7000/7000XE. APX are top tier and they exhibit this annoying "feature" it's not the speaker. I have gotten to the point I would rather listen to my BTech 6X4 Pro. it doesn't make that noise. Any ideas or work arounds or settings that could be changed?

Thanks so much,
Ryan

Audio amp kicking on, very noticeable with the APX 7000 and persisted through the entire run of that series. If it bothers you that much, slap a speaker mic on the radio and you won't hear it any longer.

I was afraid of this. It is not really an issue when you have the radio on at regular volume but If I am sitting in the living room trying not to annoy others in the room and have the volume down, it is REALLY noticeable. It is what it is I suppose.

Just to add information here that could help others, I have noticed this pop when squelch breaks as well, and I agree that when listening at low volume, the pop is almost unbearable in an earphone.

It does however seem to be dependent on certain accessories. I know the OP mentioned his APX 7000 doing this at the internal speaker. My 8000 does not do this at the speaker, but does pop with some accessories.

For example, I have a BDN6783 adapter with a BDN6726 earphone connected to it. This setup pops terribly and is essentially unusable at low to medium volume.

I also have a PMLN6126 earphone and it does not pop at all and sounds perfect. It’s just a shame because it is more difficult to connect/disconnect on the fly.

Obviously both of these accessories are powered by the same amplifier, but maybe one has different impedance than the other resulting in different behavior. All this is to say, if you experience a pop on one audio accessory, you may have better luck with a different one.
