so i went ahead and got one. programming is a bit tricky, but here is my question. is there a way to, in trunk mode, scan only my stored id's and not all availible id's for the frequencies i entered in the bank?

I don't own one of these, but it sounds like you're still in ID SEARCH mode.

All trunktracking scanners I've ever used can scan ID's in two ways...

ID SCAN and ID SEARCH...

ID SCAN will only scan talkgroup id's which you have programmed into the scanner for a specific trunked system.

ID SEARCH will montior the entire trunked system you have programmed in and any time a user keys on their radio, their agency's talkgroup becomes active and the scanner will stop on that active talkgroup until all transmissions are done. You're able to hear every single talkgroup that becomes active in this mode. Also this is how you'll be able to monitor I-CALL. Any (PC) or privatecall or ICALL made from one user to another will be picked up showing the user's radio id on your display.

So it just sounds like you're not scanning the ID's, rather you've left the scanner in search mode while in trunked.

In the Radio shack Pro 95 they call this OPEN and CLOSED mode...

OPEN MODE = You will hear any talkgroup id which becomes active on the trunked system you're monitoring...

CLOSED MODE = You will only hear any talkgroup id's which have been stored and which aren't currently locked out from being scanned.

So in this case you want to put your scanner in "CLOSED" mode in order to scan only the talkgroups id's you stored. PAGE 66 of your manual explains how to do this...

STEP 1 = PRESS MANUAL
STEP 2 = PRESS FUNC then up or down button to select the bank
STEP 3 = PRESS FUNC then 5
Bank OPEN or Bank CLOSED will appear for a moment. Once it returns to the main display you will notice either a + or - in the upper right corner of your display (10th digit). - means CLOSED and + means OPENED. So you want it to be a minus - in order to scan only stored id's.

Good luck.

Are you in control channel only? or did you enter in each frequency for the system in trunk channels and then add your id's to a bank?

hey Brad I got your PM that said you got it squared away. Sounds good.

Maybe you can answer a question for me. How is the backlight on that thing? I have a pro-51 and the backlight on it sucks. Can you decribe to me what color it is or is it clear? on the pro51 its clear and the information is black on a gray lcd. It was a very poor design, but then again its a fairly old scanner.

I'm thinking about getting a 95 specifically for trunktracking since its so cheap right now.

I was a little disappointed in the backlight but overall it's sufficient. The keys don't backlight which is a problem in the dark. Next scanner I get will have backlit keys.
