Quiet Teller County was livened up about 2100 Saturday evening by the hot pursuit of a semi truck. A local citizen was motoring on CO 67 north of Woodland Park when the semi made an apparent deliberate attempt to collide with him. Our good citizen was justifiably outraged and began to follow the semi while reporting the incident to Teller County SO via cell. SO responded to north 67 and pursued the semi south into Woodland Park. The semi refused to stop and reached the astounding speed of 35 mph, the legal limit there. Woodland Park PD was monitoring the chase and blocked the US 24 / CO 67 intersection in WP to "suggest" to the semi that it turn west vice east and avoid going through town. Just west of WP, the semi, now pursued by 3 SO and 2 WP units, ran through stop sticks set up by WP PD. Slowed but not stopped, the semi continued west toward Divide, swerving into on-coming traffic and making at least two deliberate attempts to hit police cars. Police and SO formed a rolling road block behind the truck to keep good citizens from approaching it and SO blocked US 24 at Divide. The original RP was doggedly following the semi through all of this and SO had some difficulty getting his attention to get out of the way. Then two CSP units set up more stop sticks on US 24 and finally got the truck stopped about two miles east of Divide. The driver was quickly 1095. No injuries reported. As of this writing, the truck was apparently not stolen and the driver's motive was unknown.
Action was on Teller SO Law channel (155.91), WP PD (154.755) and state DTRS 2B dispatch. Even though CSP can, and often does, talk on Teller and WP freqs, and SO and WP PD can talk on each others freqs, and everybody has VHF NLEEC, each agency stayed on their respective channel during the pursuit. SO and PD dispatchers monitored each other and coordinated by landline.
Then peace and serenity returned to Teller County.
