Another idea for scanners (from my wife)!!!

Actually my wife came up with this one!

Different color backlights selectable by channel. She suggest red, blue, and the classic orange color.

Red you could use for your fire depts, blue for police, etc.

Another idea of hers, send extra (changeable) screens so they can be replaced when they are scratched, and for $500 + you pay for the scanner you should get a carrying case free!!!

I think the different color LEDs for each channel would drive me bonkers, but it is a cool idea though. Amen to the other ideas.

You forgot green. As far as the "changeable" screens go, good idea but it wont happen. I think we ALL agree with including a case. Heck even my Dell DJ30 came with a case.

The Yaesu VX-7R has a similar feature. Its not the backlight but there's an LED next to the display. You can assign a color to a channel to remotely indicate who is talking. There's 256 available colors but I'll bet its pretty hard to distinguish between adjacent hues.

I love it when the wives show an interest. The other day my wife was coming home from shopping and when she got home she says " I saw police cars racing up and down the road code 3 on the way home, and I was thinking I really wish I had a scanner in my car right about now." :shock:

I believe I fell in love all over again

We need more women in the hobby and getting their ham tickets.

My wife doesn't really seem to pay attention to my scanners, but this one day,
we stopped at my parent's house to drop something off while they were gone.
I parked the truck and turned off the scanner (I was just stepping inside the
house for a quick few minutes), when she said, "Why did you turn the scanner
off? I want to listen to it." I thought...cool, can we get some more scanners now? LOL!

She listens to my scanners when I leave the office for a bit, she'll check email and
whatnot and come into the other room or just yell to me, about what she just heard.

I think she is slowly getting hooked on monitoring with me.

The ideas she had, she said she was "inventing her own scanner" just for me! She had several great ideas, some that are even on the 396T she never even heard of. I was so proud of her ! I wish I could remember all of the features she was talking about. One was a call log: example, I could set the scanner on my fire depts freq and if I were going to be gone it would automatically log how many pages we had. She come up with stuff that will never happen, but good thinking none the less. Like built in digital recording that could be set Voice Activated for just a few channels. Of course it would be digital capable! Also she described the Dynamic Memory instead of banks and channels, but I told her my 246t and the 396t already have that! The great part is she said I would only be required to pay $9.99. Everybody else would be $499. Sorry guys. Really don't know why I have to pay anything though? :?

I have a bc 890xlt that records the number of "hits" that the frequencies(channels) receive. This is really a handy option and this model of scanner is the only one I have seen this feature on!

My wife used to hate my scanner but after running (not chasing ambulances) up on a couple of wrecks and being able to actually hear what the LEOs are saying, she is hooked.

She knows just about all of the MHP ten codes now!

Hmmm.... I need some way of getting my girlfriend into it as well. The other day I handed her a bag that had my Pro-83 and Kenwood F6A in it, and I said " hold this for a sec" She smiled with a mischievous grin like she knew if she dropped it she could possibly end having to hear them! Evil I tell you! She jokes that I am contacting aliens whenever she hears morse code from the radio.

Years ago, there was an early crystal scanner (don't remember the make or model) that had interchangable colored plastic caps that fit over the channel indicator lights so you could color code the channels to your liking. Remember, no digital displays back then!
