Hi

I'm based in London and have recently bought two HTs, a radtel 630 and a boafeng uv-5rx pro.

I've also began the process to get my licence and intend to embrace the hobby seriously and fully.

Back in the 80s I had CB Radio and loved it I had a huge aerial clipped to the drain pipe and a really good rig at the time a superstar 360 and it got out a long way..

At the moment I have purchased a few different antennas, a programming cable and a couple of sets of software for programming. I have done nothing yet as I want to get a better understanding of basics before meddling.

I do have a couple of questions

When I program the radio I am assuming they get put in as channels and I use channel mode to monitor those stored frequencies?

Does anyone have a resource for people who are new to HTs. I have not and will not attempt to transmit on anything other than cb yet and I need to learn the basics as I have read you need two frequencies for repeaters a rx and tx and I wouldn't even have the first clue how that is done.

At the moment all I have done is listen to a couple of local airports near London.

So if you were advising a complete newbie what would you advise and what resources would you suggest?

As for what I would listen to, air and ground transport, shops, services and anything interesting.

Thank you it's all bit overwhelming at the start
