As I was discussing lakewood PD today, the topic was brought up that they might possably be going Provoice digital encrypted. I am unsure if this is only on a couple of their channels or all of them, or what's up. Has anyone else heard about this and can confirm if this will happen or if its just another thing said like the Aurora Fire Going all digital topic?? Please respond ASAP!

I haven't listened to Lakewood in a while, but I believe that they have always used digital on at least two talkgroups. I'm sure someone (PHIL) will confirm and explain this better than me.

Lakewood has always had Aegis digital capability since day one. They chucked it for patrol as, at the time, the site repeaters were not exactly all that powerful. In fact there were no signals from them up here for several years after they went on the air. Now they're just as strong as the Denver PS system.

Now it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why Aurora is starting to encrypt certain pro-voice talkgroups since it's quite obvious that "e-bay special" radios with pro-voice have been sold to winning bidders in Colorado.

If Lakewood is in fact looking at going pro-voice with encryption I'm sure they are also taking this into consideration.

Denver does want ESK on their Control Channel. No question about it. Figure on this happening if and when Nextel or Sprint/Nextel start the process to move Denver's NPSPAC 866 logical channels. Since all radios assigned to the system will be reprogrammed it would not take much effort to add the feature at the time.

Aurora may not be able to do so right away since non public safety are using legacy analog EDACS design type radios however that does not mean that M/A Comm down the road will not swap out or create a flash style ESK upgrade solution down the road.

In any case someone being careless with ebay radios could end up on the front page headlines of RadioReference along with the local news outlets. What's happening to those guys in Michigan again?

Phil.
