Yup, a nor'easter and they're gales not to be taken lightly, the hurricane cat scale takes over where the Beaufort (Bofor) scale leaves off. Presently there are two possible tracks, we could get lucky if it's out to sea and get a force 9 or it could track closer to shore making for a force 10, force 12 is a hurricane with wind speed >74mph. For what it's worth Sandy was a force 11 gale officially but that's not to say it wasn't a cat 1 hurricane actually, just a little creative accounting that gives a certain insurance advantage.
In any case Sandy didn't do much damage inland but the shoreline was devastated and now this. Oh lovely, just lovely, while most won't even feel a ripple here at the shore our weakened infrastructure is pretty much guaranteed to take another hit. Frankly I'm expecting to lose power and the heat with it so if again you don't hear from me for a while picture me bundled up like an Eskimo staring at the wall bored silly. Well, at least a 7.5AH gel battery will keep my scanner going, I just won't be able to tell you about it. (;->)
Oh and here's one for you poor unfortunates who traded your land lines for cell phones, that part of the infrastructure is always the first to go. Just to rub your noses in it, my landlord was able to communicate via my land line which was the only thing working when everything else went poop. (Nyeah nyeah na nyeah nyeah.)
