Another PRO-95 Newbie???

Hello All,

I am new to the dedicated scanner world. I am located in NW MO. I was curious as to the best way to program my PRO-95. I have already downloaded WIN95 and am awaiting my cable. I was wondering what is the best way to place frequencies into my scanner. I am currently loading everything into the first bank and then progressivley installing the subsequent freq.'s into the channels. Is it better to alternate placement into other banks and channels or does it really matter. I have no trunking to follow here in this area. I didn't know if it was better to say place your 42.00's in a certain bank and your 155.00's in another and so on or if it mattered. I may place varying surrounding counties that way. I hope this is clear as mud....Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the group!

There is really no "correct way" to program your Pro-95, except for starting EDACS systems on channel one as opposed to channel zero.

Whatever works for you and fits your style of organization is the right way to do it!

To second what Crayon said, welcome!

10 scanner listeners will probably have 10 different ways of setting up their scanners. Once you get your cable, you will most likely arrange your .p95 file many different ways before you are satisfied with it (at least that's how it worked with myself and other's I've heard from). Eventually you will find a setup that you feel comfortable with.

I have a Pro-95 also and decided to set it up based on banks. I live in Dayton, Ohio, so this is how I decided to set mine up:

Bank 0-Wright Patterson AFB, trunk system, airport freqs, and mil air freqs.
Bank 1-State of Ohio. Hwy Patrol, DOT, Snow Plows, road repair.
Bank 2-Aircraft (civilian) Dayton Int'l Airport, Indy Center, local unicom.
Bank 3-Railroad. (CSX and Norfolk Southern are big around here)
Bank 4-Greene County, Ohio EDACS (one county over to the east)
Bank 5-Careflight. (Local EMS Helicopter)
Bank 6-Warren Co. Ohio Trunked System (one county to the south)
Bank 7-City of Dayton Trunked System
Bank 8-Miami County EDACS (one county to the north)
Bank 9-I named it "Local" Which is my home PD/FD, surrounding PD/FD, other little stuff I like to listen to. Many of my local depts. are on the Montgomery County Trunked System.

Maybe this can give you some ideas of how you might want to set your 95 up. The Win95 and cable is the way to do it. I did it the hard way! and I data-tagged it all too!!

I sometimes tinker with the idea of setting up a fire-only bank. No matter what, you wont be able to fill the scanner up. I have a bunch of stuff in mine and I am not even close.

The other cool thing you can do when you get your cable is program in Military UHF. You cant do it on the keypad, but you can via Win95. The sensitivity isnt the greatest, but it does receive!!.

Enjoy, the 95 is a great scanner. Especially if you dont have digital trunking around yet. Good luck and good scanning!!

WOW....I can see this is going to be a great forum to follow!!! Thanks for the information. BigJimbo...I like the way you did that and I was thinking along the same lines. I was planning on looking on the FCC web site and programing banks by county for when I travel to my sister's in Qiuncy...I can see this is going to be FUN!!! Thanks again!

The RR database on this site is pretty darn good for freqs. Never hurts to have a copy of Police Call from Radio Shack too! I always drag it out when I'm thinking of programming something different into the 95.

Dont forget the search modes! Never know what you might hear. Get some rechargeables for the 95 if you havent already. I have the Radio Shack Ni-Mh rechargeables and they work well. Energizer recently had a sale on their AA Ni-Mh batts, including a charger, may be worth checking out at a local office supply store, etc. I noticed the sale in a flyer from my sunday paper not too long ago.

Thanks again for the impute!! I have gotten a AC adapter, power cord for the vehicles and have the rechargeable batteries as well. All I need now is my cable to utilize the WIN95 program. This seems to be a great scanner for the money and what a great birthday present it was!! Will have to get the 800MHZ antenna now.
