What can i do to improve reception on my scanner. I have the rubber antenna and the telescoping antenna that came eith my pro-92. i know i know old system but it works good as far as i can tell.ne way i live in pontiac sc in kershaw county.been scanning for 6 mths have lots of frequicey but is there like a main freq then alternates or is all frequincys needed. i noticed on some freq i hear the same conversation. also when my scanner is in the open mode there is a lot seems to be interference or something .ne opions or help would be helpful thanx

First thought - get a new scanner. The PRO-92 is notorious for being essentially deaf at 800MHz, and not much better on the other bands.
Pick up a PRO-97. I was on sale through today for $150. It has all the same features of the PRO-92, a more sensitive receiver, more characters on the text tags, 100 channels per bank, Signal Stalker, and other improvements. And it works essentially the same way.
Another idea is to get an antenna that's designed for the frequency bands you're most interested in. If you're most interested in VHF/UHF, consider the Diamond RH77CA. If you're more interested in 800MHz, the RS 800MHz duck antenna is a popular choice (and it does okay at VHF, in my opinion better than the Diamond at 800).
I'm not aware that Kershaw County FD/EMS/SD/PDs are on an 800MHz system, correct me if I'm wrong. You seem to indicate that you've programmed a trunked system in your post (primary and alternate freqs). If you're programming Palmetto 800, pick the site closest to you, and program all that site's frequencies. The PRO-92 requires all frequencies from a site be programmed. You're hearing the same conversation on multiple frequencies probably because they are frequencies from different sites carrying the same conversation.
So, if you're most interested in Kershaw Co services (as opposed to state or adjacent county services on Palmetto 800), consider the Diamond antenna. But a new radio will do wonders for you.

i'm picking up the 800MHz good it's just the 155.000 and freq with in that range i live in the 29045 zip bookman rd to be exact. using the little black antenna that came with the system.if i go closer to say two knotch rd the signal is alot better.but primaraly i scan at home. i need a cheap in exspensive way to get better reception.kinda of broke hence the old system. i know some of you old guro guys can help me a have faith.

Consider the Diamond RH77CA. It's 16" long, but quite flexible. You can get if from most major ham radio dealers such as AES and HRO. I have one and it works very well for VHF and UHF. It's not so great on 800, but maybe you're close enough to a tower where you won't notice much difference. Costs about $25.
If it's just inside you're having trouble with, consider an outdoor antenna. You can pick up a 20-176 from Radio Shack for about the same cost as the RH77CA. But then you have to figure out a way to mount it and get some cable into the house. That may be more complicated than you want to get into. But it's guaranteed to improve your signal inside if you do it correctly.
