All I can say is WOW. Do you have them all on at the same time? I'm sure you have a method for monitoring multiple radios. The other day my wife got on me and asked why I need 4 scanners. Now I can show her yours and she will back-off

No one else has commented on this yet... but... Nice to a see a fellow mac user on here. Any luck on programing software for OS/X or is that why you still have the PC?

I have used ARC996 and 396 on my MacBook Pro (Intel Chip, using Parrellels). The programs run fine but I had to reduce the serial port speed to 9600 in order to get reliable read/writes to the radio using the USB1 cable as well as an Aten USB-RS232 adaptor.

Until then and continuing today, the PC is basically used only to run those programs that do not have a Mac version, in my case mostly just radio programming stuff.

What does the CSI CD-1 Decode do?
Displays PL, DPL and DTMF tones read from the scanner attached to them. They operate very simply, connected to the discriminator of the radio they site there and just display any tones detected.

After you retire, you can open up a shack consulting busines! You are very, very good at organizing radios, with user friendly ergonomics. Fantastic! :)

Been there, done that. I helped set up a couple media monitoring set-ups here and elsewhere as well as assisting on a few EOC's. Good money to be made in consulting, helps buy new radios!

The 4 BC15's set up for Fire Tones stay silent until a call goes out. They replaced old Plectrons, and are actually cheaper to buy than it is to obtain a Plectron, recrystal and set up tones. Plus they are easy to reprogram and you can monitor up to 10 sets of tones on the channel, instead of up to 3 tone sets (that share a common tone) on a Plectron.

Some of the other radios (the BC785's, a 780 and the Pro2096 are often used more for data collection with Trunker, Pro96Com or other decoder than they are used to actually monitor the audio. With Trunker I often only have TG's enabled that are only used for large emergencies, and the routine traffic is logged to help determine radio and TG usage.

I also dedicate a 780 to obscure or lightly used channels like 121.5, surveillances, etc., so that when it squawks I really want to hear it.

As for the wife, mine has never complained about having them too loud (she is deaf...) or too many. When she questions the number of radios I ask her how many knitting needles she has of each size and she hands me the credit card...

Don't have a thing on the roof!

I do, however, have a boatload of antennas in the attic, including 3 Discones, 3 RS ScanTenna knock-offs, and many other 1/4 wave and scanner antennas. I live in a homeowners association that does not allow outside antennas.

Hi, awsome shack. Wish I had the money to do that. Well I hope to some day. Don't we all. lolol..
What is the scanner/radio that is just under the fm radio in your car? I notice it has a black face. Looks lot more like radio then just a silver scanner like my pro-2096. Which I think I might paint black.

Hi,

Great Shack! How do you manage all the power supplies?

Any pictures to show those?

regards

Z

All the radios (except the R8500) are powered by an Astron RS-50A 50 amp power supply. At a hamfest a few years back I bought a few dozen coaxial power connectors and made a couple wiring harnass's, with 8 connectors and a 5 amp fuse on each. The Moto's and the Alinco have individual power connectors to the Astron. The 8500 has an 18 VDC power supply of it's own, and the MDC decoder has a 5 VDC wall wart.

I had an electrician come in a few years back and install extra circuits in my office. Unseen in the pictures (to the rear of the camera) is my wife's side of the office, with her computer and 2 monitors, as well as a TV, routers, etc. I have 4 20 amp circuits running into the office, each with a quad outlet box. I have a few decent outlet strips/surge protectors, 1 for the radios (On Circuit 1) 1 for my PC's and another for my Mac system (On circuit 2), a third for the TV, routers, and other gear (circuit 3) and last one for the wife's stuff (on cicuit 4). This way there are no overloads or excessive heat generated.

That is an RH-96 connected to a BCD996T that is under the console. The RH-96 is Uniden's Remote Head that works with the 996, BC15, BC330 or BC396.
