I will be the first in line with my hand up when asked who doesn’t know squat about antennas and scanning. My last scanner was a Bearcat 800XLT I had in high school (1974).

Recently retired and bought a PRO2096 that the included whip antenna didn’t pull in much, so after looking at reviews I bought a Tram 1480 that might be overkill or there might be something better suited for a scanner instead of an antenna meant for transmitting also. Remember I don’t hold a candle to you guys, so be gentle. The radials are probably a good place for birds to rest because they aren’t being used. It is on the peak of the gable now with RG8x going through a window for the time being.

My plan was to cut the coax, put a PL259 on the cut end, connect that to a lightning arrestor, drill a hole in the side of the house, fish the coax through and crimp a PL259 on both ends. Have the connectors but can’t find a coax prep tool that says it is for RG8x.

Is there anything I should change or add?

Thanks.

What exactly are you trying to monitor? Like what type of systems and what band(s)?

Looking in ARC96, the frequencies I have imported from RR start with 154, 155, 156, 158, 163, 453, 458, 461, 464, 465, 770, 774, 775, ,776 800, 851, 852, and 854.

Mostly interested in police, fire, and EMS.

i don’t think the PRO2096 can do 700 mhz so those frequencies will be removed.
