A little more info

From Greeley Tribune:

Two people died this morning in a crash west of Platteville, marking the 20th and 21st to die on Weld County roads this year -- now six in less than a week.

The crash occurred after 9 a.m. near the intersection of Colo. 66 and Weld County Road 17.

According to Colorado State Trooper Gilbert Mares, a 19-year-old woman driving a blue Honda CRV ran into the back end of a red Ford Escort that was waiting for the car in front of it to turn left onto Weld 17 from Colo. 66. The impact of the crash sent the escort into the west bound lanes, where a green Dodge pickup, traveling west, careened into it head-on.

Both the driver of the pickup and the Escort were pronounced dead at the scene. A 53-year-old man from Longmont was driving the escort. Firefighters spent almost two hours extricating him from the vehicle. A 52-year-old man, either from Buena Vista or Breckenridge, was driving the Dodge. Mares said his pickup was registered in Breckenridge, but his license had an address of Buena Vista. He was thrown from his truck upon impact, landing next to his truck, Mares said.

All east and west traffic on Colo. 66 was diverted for five hours today, while officers cleared up the crash. Traffic is now operating freely.

Mares said the crash is stil under investigation, but so far they've concluded the cause was driver error. Alcohol, drugs and speed are not suspected in the crash.

The woman was taken to North Colorado Medical Center with minor injuries, Mares said.

Next of kin have not yet been notified, and troopers have not yet talked with the woman.
