Just bought an Antenex B8065C mobile 800 mhz antenna. Have not installed it in the vehicle yet, but when trying to compare it to the RS 800 mhz duck antenna on my PSR-500, the RS 800 mhz outperforms it on receive, no hands down. This is with the B8065C mounted to a cookie sheet (for a ground plane).
Obviously this is only a _receive_ test, but I really would have expected the 8065C to meet/exceed the receive performance of the 800 mhz duck - and so far it hasn't.
Any opinions? How much is the ground plane going to make a difference on receive? It shouldn't make much difference. I'd think I should get better receive on the mobile antenna even without a ground plane.
