Newbie here, just looking for advice on this setup before I pull the trigger. Just bought a whistler 1065 for use in rural WV. Terrain is what you’d expect. I live in a small town along the Ohio river, down in a valley.

Planning to remove an unused directv dish and use the mount to put a Diamond D130NJ about 5ft above my roof/chimney. Will have a 35 ft run from the antenna to a lightning arrestor (50 ohm) and then a 25 foot run to the scanner with a n to bnc adapter. I’ll also have a dedicated #6 ground from the mast to a grounding rod (it’s a straight shot, pics attached if it’ll let me).

I’m just getting into radios and scanners, so really all I’m doing for now is listening to local/semi local (50 mile radius) police/ems/fire. A friend gave me his scanner file with just about everything in the state and part of Ohio/pa. So I’m wondering if this is an appropriate setup or if I should be going a different route?

Thank you.

To be NEC legal if you install a new ground rod it must be bonded to the house main ground with no less than #6 copper wire. Do a search on "nec article 801" which deals specifically with antenna grounding. Otherwise it all sounds good.
