Been looking on here for the best antenna over stock for the HP-1. Everything I have found is for the 800 MHz range and nothing for the 450 MHz range. Anyone know of a good antenna for that range? As when I am at my house the scanner performs great but at work not so much and the main site for the system (Cortland County Public Safety) is not very far from where I work. Yeah I know about the simulcast issues but I can bring my 536 and when sitting side by side, the 536 works better with its stock antenna.

Specifically what kind of antenna are you looking for? A duckie? If so, a good alternative might be a 70cm. ham duckie - they are often broadbanded enough on receive to do very well on 450 Mhz

One that will attach like the stock one but improve performance. Have been looking on ebay and found this one --> ANTENNA UPGRADE 800MHZ 3db GAIN FIT SMA UNIDEN HP-1 HOMEPATROL SCANNER HIGH/LOW Now I am not against using an SMA to BNC adapter either but I would rather not have the adapter to put a BNC antenna on. (Not that it would hurt the performance by much, unless it was a crappy adapter to begin with)

Does the HP-1 have an SMA connector or BNC? If it's SMA it's hard to beat the Comet HT-55 for UHF, or even VHF-Hi. It does reasonably well with 800 MHz too. It's not big and bulky either - it's fairly short and very flexible. Makes a great antenna for handhelds. Works great on my 396XT. I even connect it sometimes to a SMA to BNC adapter, then to a BNC elbow adapter and use it on my desktop scanners.

Yeah I know. But as I said, everything I am finding ends up 800 MHz and not down to 450. I did find one on ScannerMaster that is basically the same as the 536's antenna with the BNC to SMA adapter. I may go that route. I just don't have anyplace local anymore to pick up the adapter (Rat Shack closed and my local electronics shop closed a couple months before) to try my 536 antenna on the HP-1.

sparklehorse... May give it some thought... Just would have to get a 90 deg. SMA adapter for it as the antenna comes out the side of the HP-1.
