a good 800 MHZ antenna is a siomple 1/4 wave whip or a commercail 3dB loaded whip.
Use a NMO mount and you can get a mag or trunk lip base for it.

A 5 foot whip is generally NOT a good 800 MHz antenna.

I doubt you need more than a $10 whip, but go buy the Antenex if you like.

I use the ASCANC in black (ABSCANC). Very good vhf/uhf pretty good on 800. Not for far off use on 800. I'm trying to get a higher gain 800 for my mobile scanning.

As far as multi-band, the ASCANC or the Maxrad equivalent do fine.

Any multi-band antenna is a compromise to accomodate each band spectrum.

I think you will be pleased.

Good luck and take care,
Julian

Allen,

Thanks for your message on antenna.

Since mine is a "company car" I cannot drill a permanent mount. I'll check out their trunk lip mounts.

I'm interested in checking out the M'loss 900 coax. I want to get the lowest loss and still be able to use it in the trunk mount.

I know you prefer permanent mounts......... understand. But if you had to choose between a magnetic mount and a trunk lip mount, what would you choose.

Thanks and take care!!

"Check out Comtelco Antennas http://www.comtelcoantennas.com/perm...ody_mounts.htm) and maybe get yourself their Microloss 900 coax, especially the CEZM-10 cable and hi-freq. brass NMO mount, specificaly designed for minimizing attenuation from high frequencies.

I was just using this thread to make contact with "Allen5565" regarding a note I sent several months ago regarding Comtel Antennas.

Best Regards to All,

A mag mount on the roof works better but an on-glass mount isn't that much worse and it's more convenient. A trunk lip mount, unless you leave it on all the time, has the disadvantages without the advantages - poor signal pickup and inconvenience.

Hi Xenon and all,

"Since mine is a "company car" I cannot drill a permanent mount. I'll check out their trunk lip mounts."

My friends and I use Andrew 3dB gain cell phone antennas, they work fine, look fine and are very rugged.
