I need some advice on finding a antenna for my Radioshack Pro-164. I'm having problems monitoring some 800 MHz analog systems in the Dayton, Ohio area. I'm currently using a Radioshack 800 MHz antenna and having problems receiving some countries around where I live. I has wondering if anyone could offer some advice on which antennas are great for 800 Mhz analog systems for a Radioshack Pro-164.

What's the range of these systems from you? Do you have all the channels programmed in and set to the proper trunk setting? I pick up all 800 systems in my area for about 15 miles. Beyond that point UHF waves won't really carry.

Do you use your PRO-164 for mobile or base use? Or do you carry it around?

Well the range for most of the systems is within 15 miles of where I live. I'm not sure if I'm getting interference within my house or not. I when I'm carrying it around outside I don't have many problems with my scanner receiving traffic. I do have my scanner programmed correctly from the database on here. So I might need an outside antenna to pick up inside my house, I'm not sure though.

Well I basically use it for carrying around when I'm outside or I have it sitting on my desk.I'm not sure what options I have to use at my desk when it comes to receiving traffic. When I'm outside carrying it around it seems to pick up pretty well versus inside on my desk. I'm not sure if its my Radio Shack 800MHz antenna or not.

Do you have a option to put up a outside base antenna for it? Have you tried a mag-mount antenna on a piece of metal? It might receive better if you could put up some kind of antenna outside.

I haven't tried a mag-mount antenna yet with a piece of metal. I may try that first before using a antenna outside. What type of outside antenna could I use?

Well the two most common outside scanner antennas are the Diamond D-130J and the AntennaCraft ST2,you could also try a mag-mount on a piece of metal thats outside to.
