Ok, this is going to sound weird. I am using a Unication G4, not just because of Simulcast but because I live in close proximity to a T-Mobile/Sprint Cell Tower that kills the 700/800 Trunked frequencies.

But, if I listen in the basement in the corner furthest from the cell tower - crystal clear trunked reception. But I don't want to live in the basement to avoid the inevitable "living in the basement" jokes.

Here's the question - would it actually make sense to put a permanent antenna in the basement and run coax to my normal listening area upstairs? If so, any particular antenna anyone would recommend for a "below ground" install? See, told you it was weird?

It seems that you need to attenuate all signals to not overload the receiver. Try to make the antenna receive worse by wrapping it in aluminium foil, or perhaps you do not need the antenna at all if you have perfect reception in the basement, if that's below ground level.
