So I just received a Antenex Yagi and I'm looking to install it on a mast using a chimney mount. I've been looking around online for sources for these parts and can't seem to find them anywhere but Radio Shack. I already have a source for good quality coax [LMR-400], but I'm wondering if RS's antenna mounting hardware is as middle-of-the-road as some of their other antenna stuff. Here's what I have so far:

Heavy Duty 10-Foot Antenna Mast
$15.49 Brand: RadioShack
Catalog #: 15-863 Model: 15-863

Chimney Ratchet Mount
$21.99 Brand: RadioShack
Catalog #: 15-839 Model: 15-0839

-----------------------

Any other ideas that won't break the bank? Thanks,

I have used the Chimney Ratchet Mount for over 20 years and have never had a problem. In fact, my current installation had too much weight so I had to add 2 more for a total of 4 Ratchet Mount to hold everything in place.

Good luck with the new antenna. I have never had any problem with RS antenna mounting hardware. Bought lots of it and differing types over the years.

Assuming that the Yagi you are referring to is a VHF or UHF and not an heavy monster, the RS Chimney mount will work fine. Of course the chimney construction has be good also.

A word of advice is to take a bubble level with you up there, kind of hand tighen the mast in the brackets and don't tighen those rachets until you are happy with the position of the mast.

Make sure your ground it good first thing.

I do water restoration and fire restoration for a living and many of the fires have to do with lightning.

That said I wounder how many homes would not of caught fire if they had an antenna (homes that had no antenna at all) and it was grounded...seems to me the lightning would have hit the antenna and been grounded...

hmmmmmm
