Antenna Mast question

I am looking at placing an antenna up using 3/4 sch 40 black iron pipe that I have. I was going to use a 120" and a 48" section. I failed to measure the overhang above the wall and am stuck with 12" clearance wall mounts where I need approx 14"-16" clearance to make this work. Obviously my first choice is to get a bigger mount but if that fails in a timely manner I was wondering if it would be safe to to place the 48" section on the wall at 12" and since I am using pipe to use couplings to give me the desired stand off from the wall to clear the overhang.
