the formula i found said 2834 divide by freq = the antenna in inches the frequency bands i listen to is 162=17.49 406=6.980 800=3.6675 225=12.595 do you have to use center loads or just cut to the frequency you want to hear as the bands listed here how would you make these bands into one frequency span the way have this listed you would have to have 4 differant antennas or am i incorrect

There is no way to really make one antenna work well on all of that. A discone might be the closest thing. The military has been trying for years and everything is still a compromise at best with resistive components to keep the transmitter happy.

Your best bet would probably be a DPD Productions log periodic type or something similar. I have one and it's made extremely well. It has a bit of forward gain but receives well from all directions.
