Hi, everyone,

My question is similar to that in this thread Rooftop tripod, mast height, and guying except that I'm mounting an Alpha-Delta DX-EE multiband antenna on a flat roof. I plan on using the same tripods (well 3' tall) with 6' 1 1/4" wooden dowels in them, so the total height will be about 6' off the roof (maybe up to 8'). (Edited to add that I plan on using 3 tripods with the dowels in them)

I can't bolt the tripods down, and guying will be interesting as there isn't a lot on the roof to guy it to. So, I'm wondering a) if this will work and b) what options do I have to anchor the tripods down, if necessary. For clarification, I'm in an apartment downtown surrounded on three sides by taller buildings. I also considered using 1 1/4" PVC Pipe to get the height up more but am more than willing to sacrifice height if having them down low will reduce/eliminate the need for major anchoring or guying.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Patrick.

I have done things like this. I would assemble the mount and mast without cinder blocks, put the antenna up then adjust the placement of the non penetrating mount before loading on the cinder blocks. Since the dipole will be equivalent to two guy wires I think you could go up to a 10ft mast and metal is fine.
