I kind of doubt it. The loss of the cable might offset any advantage. Now a rooftop antenna where you really get clear of surrounding objects, that is worth it. In the case you are suggesting, I vote no.
Even just putting it on top of the fridge will get you a bit of extra height and the top of the fridge will act as a ground plane. So long as you use good coax and keep it short you should gain quite a bit. I actully have use a mag mount sitting on top of a fine-screen cooking grill while camping and just on the table adding or removing the grill made the bars on the scanner go up and down a couple, with noticabley clearer comms.
Go outdoors with that antenna, on your air conditioner or any other similar surface. What's up with people and their indoor antennas, anyway? Get it outside, where it will hear the most.
