Slowmover, I appreciate the information but the CB thing is incidental. That's not the purpose of the trip but as one who travels quite a bit, I've found that all the interstates have a plethora of truck traffic. In the last 20 years, I've made the trip at least 25 times. I'll be using Interstates 85, 65, 22, 55, 40 and 35 plus Oklahoma's Muskogee and Cimarron Turnpikes (Birmingham, Memphis, Little Rock, Tulsa, Wichita, et. al.). While I'm not looking for the trucks, I'm sure I'll have plenty to deal with.
Respectfully (purely for consideration):
Opening of your thread post was that you wanted to
know what was going on out there (paraphrase consistent with what’s written).
I’m old and you’re older.
But I have hundreds of thousands of miles the past dozen years and have gone to the trouble of significant radio system upgrades.
In that vein: I believe it’s a mistake to discount the nudge which came to investigate
all over again what CB is and isn’t. I’m recommending: trust that.
I’m no fan of that radio you have. Promise & performance don’t match up well. Sort of okay for a Jeep club member (I’d rather have a PRESIDENT
Bill) so allow me a suggestion:
There is more than one thread about the PRESIDENT
Randy

If you’ve wanted one, your trip is a good test.
I have no problem stating it’s the fair equal to a UNIDEN 880 used as a mobile given the rest of the systems are ideal .
A RAM Mount or similar. A VOX mic or not. KES-5 speaker. KL-203. And best antenna

— The WEST MOUNTAIN RADIO CLEARSpkr is the true game-changer.
I regularly converse with men who can’t be heard by those around me.
My 885 Road Trip thread goes past this. I’m frustrated by not being able to convey
what a top system provides. The words sound the same,
but the experience is worlds away from what nearly everyone else believes CB capable.
I’ve gotten better on-air. Knowing what I want and persisting until I get it.
That wakes up others and what happens on-air shifts. In approximately 3,000-hrs annual use it’s not about quantity, wholly, it’s in the quality of comms.
The Road is not what it was circa 2014. Nothing at all like 1989 or 1978.
The exchange of information (intelligence) is background.
There are many acute observers with whom one can run the roads. He’s headed one way and I’m headed another. Two ships on the sea
Have the gear. Otherwise this won’t occur.
Believe me that those radios and operators stand out.
The mystery is why others fade when we exchange information.
Hear, and Get Heard ain’t a line of bull.
You can liken it to Command Presence if you want. It’s not about being a loud radio, per se. Your gear can express You.
The others so equipped (quality) have been waiting for others to show up.
The Big Road is never the same again. Its about the Few, not the Many.
Yeah, I was around in the 1970s.
That world is gone.
I’ve been a driver 25-years. Past some skills
those who haven’t been on the road the past 5-6/years are out-of-date.
This world is different.
I’ll lay money on the reaction anyone savvy to this has in the difference once experienced.
In the large (current)
Randy thread you’ll see several recent posts made
in the same vein. In that it’s about features. His posts (and mine here) are
performance.
It’s what’s under the surface. Between the lines.
Belief about “Citizens Band” is in its name.
Tech lags, first, and so does perceived need, second. This post is about that second
.
A Door to Perception (that’s not exaggeration).
The Universe comes to understand your interest via use and persistence you’ll meet familiar cousins.
You needn’t reply. It’s an appeal to any reader.
