My 1982-83 Antenna Specialists catalog calls this a 'slot' antenna.

It was available in 2 UHF ranges.....Model ASP-1000 for 450-512 MHz, and ASPA-1000 for 406-420 MHz.

I don't know of too many cars in today's era that this could be installed in other than something that already looks like a police car........Kinda defeats the purpose of undercover.

This antenna mounts in the trunk and is completely hidden, it radiates through a 6 X 9" speaker opening and its very stealthy.

It was banned for sale in the early 90's. Read the warning sticker. It basically radiated into the passenger compartment turning it into something like a microwave oven!

I doubt that the cab of a car would contain the RF like a microwave would. If it did, that antenna wouldn't work very well.

I still wouldn't feel comfortable with that setup. I used to skipper a friends boat for him sometimes and his boats vhf antenna was about 3' from the captains chair. Its only 25 watts but I still made sure to look away from the antenna when the key was down and if I wasn't underway I got up and stepped away from the wheel.

They actually worked pretty well. The problem was it bounced around inside before before radiating out. At 125 watts you could almost feel the grapes turning to raisins...
