Antenna cable length

The shorter the coax the less the loss. As the frequency increases the loss becomes more for a given length

of cable. So keeping it shorter is a good idea. However having several extra feet is a good idea because

at some point you may need to change connectors or sub another type. Also you might want to add other

equipment ie swr meter or an amp if you are a ham or relocate a radio in your operating area. You can use

jumpers (giving a little loss) if a major relocation is necessary but with a little extra cable this can be avoided

for shorter moves.

Li all depends on the frequency and the type of coax, that you can tell a noticeable difference. As BushDoctor pointed out, a lab session, you will notice differences but the human ear won;t notice much. Now if you want to use uhf frequencies, well the best coax and the sorter difference is important. Now if you are doing low band, on 80 or 40 meters, long runs don't make much of a difference.
