Saw this posting for an ST-2 tonight that just listed. I know its a lot of money but supply and demand.

Looks like this guy has a second one too for sale. Looks like that past two fetched about 300.00 bucks. I have one and it works so awesome that I would never part ways with it.

The ST-2 is a good antenna, but Only a Fool would spend that much money on one! 73, n9zas

FYI here's a list of what the Antennacraft Scantenna ST2 antennas have been selling for recently (during the last 60 days) on eBay:

$295 with 30 bids: Antennacraft ST2 Scanner Antenna | eBay

$305 with 41 bids: Antennacraft ST2 Scanner Antenna | eBay

$331 with 14 bids: Antennacraft ST2 Scanner Antenna | eBay

$300 with 11 bids: Antennacraft ST2 Omni Directional Outdoor Scanner Antenna New | eBay

$350 with Buy It Now: Antennacraft St 2 Antenna | eBay

Geez!

I have five up in the air and 3 spares still in the boxes.

I'm feeling rich.

Rich ;)

I used to have to replace one or two every year because of breakage.
The last version fixed that problem.
I haven't had to replace one in over 5 years or so.
But, I'm hanging on to the spares just in case.

By the way, I found that they perform much better over time if I make solid connections with small screws.

FYI if anyone is interested there is a used Radio Shack 20-044 scanner antenna (which is a "knockoff" of the Antennacraft ST2 Scantenna) on eBay right now with a current bid of "only" $159 (plus $19 shipping). The Radio Shack version has blue plastic insulators while the genuine Antennacraft version has black plastic insulators.

Here's the link to the Radio Shack version currently on eBay: Base Scanner Antenna Radio Shack Model 20 044 | eBay

No doubt that it's a good antenna, but would not even think of paying $300 or more for one. Many other options for less than the half the price they are going for on e-bay. The one I have up now on the roof will stay there until mother nature decides to break it.

It actually isn't a "knockoff". RadioShack owned AntennaCraft, which supplied their base TV and scanner antennas. AntennaCraft had some level of independence and was able to sell directly to other retailers and distributors.

During the financial mess of RadioShacks bankruptcy AntennaCraft's plant in Iowa closed. I don't know who (if anyone) has the rights to the designs of their antennas now.

I was just up on my roof yesterday to clean my chimney before winter sets in here in Upstate NY.

All 5 of my ST2 antennas still look pretty good. And ....... I still have 3 spares in the garage which I would not even consider parting with. ;)

They may not be the best on every frequency, but they are good enough on ALL of them.
Including on SatCom during the winter when I bring my X-Wing inside.

You can get 250.00 to 300.00 bucks each right now. I sold two of mine and got that kind of money. Then I ended up buying a Diamond D130J and they work awesome. Make a couple of bucks and have the best of both worlds.

The ST2 design is nothing more than several dipoles in parallell. Each dipole is cut to one frequency.

Normally a 1/2 wave dipole are slightly better than a discone but when several off frequency dipoles are in parallell the result are unpredictable. The measurements indicates dipoles to be cut for 60-120-600-1000MHz and as the dipoles are so close to each other they will interact and "smooth out" the max and min over the VHF and UHF frequency bands respectively.
