I'm a little confused as to what possible reason it shouldn't be allowed here. I mean, lets face it... antennas are a rather critical component of any radio, be it two-way or a scanner. I think building one is perfectly relevent to this board.

Perhaps that could be a new section here.... "Antennas and antenna support systems"??

While I don't know enough to contribute, I'm definately interested, and always learn from these type of discusions. Keep them, there's no reason why they should go anywhere else. If they are considered inapropriate here, then no where else will it be suitable. This is the place for it.

Antennas are the backbone of any radio system.
Without them your ears are silenced. From the days of Marconi until now people have experminated with antenna design from Variations of long wire antennas to directional Panel Antennas.
Rest assured that this experimenting will continue and newer designs will appear.
It's thru this experimentation that the pioneers of radio made it what it is today and those who experiment today will be responsible for the discoveries of tomorrow.
Antenna design is in itself a science that should continue to be explored as long as radio exists.
What better place to explore new designs and create a better wheel, than this site.
This is by all means a perfect form for antenna design and construction.

Keep them right where they are. Without the antenna, you have nothing. Any of us could do with some extra knowledge on this integral component.

At my computer, duh!
The only reason to even think about it would be if there was enough antenna traffic (or the antenna traffic was getting buried and thus difficult to locate) to warrant their own forum. I don't think that's really the case.

A quick poll regarding antenna building and design.

If you say elsewhere.... please suggest where.

I'll go a little more out and suggest that the subject deserves its own forum (similar to the state forums). An Antenna forum would be useful.

I agree that this is an exellent topic for a new forum since it is integral to good scanning and different enough to warrant a new area to help the organization on this board.

Though I also sort of agree with Voyager's comment' about a separate `forum'' *IF* there actually were enough *different* types of construction and theory discussion.

While I probably wouldn't be all that able to add anything to most of the discussion I am *always* ready to learn more about the subject since it is something that is so integral to `systems' overall.

Just this `Olde Fart's' 2¢ worth. {GRIN!}
