Depends on the forest and who they have contracted to do the installs. When I was installing for them we usually used Larsen WBQ 150 antennas, now doing comms on fires, I see vehicles from all over the nation. Most of the antennas are Wide Band Quarterwave for VHF Hi band centered around 160MHz. Some will have gain type antennas, others will have standard 1/4 wave VHF antennas. I have occasionally run across the wide-band gain type antennas such as the Maxrad unit. Almost all will use the NMO base.
